The Ulster Tartan Bow Tie - Ulster Tartan Collection
Style Notes
A Word from the Makers
Your Bow Tie is crafted from 100% Wool Tartan expertly woven in Scotland.
The Ulster Tartan represents the whole of the nine counties in Ulster and has a distinctive design with red, green & mustard plaid.
The Ulster Tartan as we know it today has an interesting history. The red ulster tartan is essentially an interpretation of fabric unearthed from a farm in the townland of Flanders, near Dungiven, County Londonderry in 1956. The cloth was dated back to the 16th century & included the remains of tartan trews, a tunic, belt & coat. Eventually, a handloom in the Belfast College of Technology was used to re-create the Ulster Tartan, based on the rags found on the farm.
